A trip to Malta

So, I absolutely love to travel, and have a huuuuuge bucket list of places that I want to go to! Recently, myself and my partner Darran went to Malta on an impromptu holiday.

Why Malta? Firstly, it’s a beautiful place to visit! When we were looking at where we could go, it really stood out to us, with its historic cities, and crystal-clear waters… and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I would kill (not literally) to photograph a wedding there, and I hope to get the opportunity in the future.

Another reason, a little less to do with its obvious attraction, is this… a while back I was searching for a photographer, to take some photos of myself and my partner, and stumbled across the work of the lovely Frances. I found out that she would be in Malta at the same time as we were thinking to go away, and that made decision of where to go an easy one!

We packed quite a lot, considering we were only there for 5 days! *Ahem… I may have used one and a half suitcases to Darran’s half* We also packed in a lot while we were there… we saw some crazy catacombs (a labyrinth of Roman cemeteries) in Mdina, beautiful beaches, Popeye Village, towns, and ate at some wonderful restaurants. There were some memorable moments thrown in, like when we decided to venture to the island of Gozo and ended up having to get on a rickety little boat back to Malta due to a bomb scare on the ferry – nightmare! We then had to walk for 45 minutes in the blazing hot sunshine, along a motorway, to find a bus route that wasn’t affected by the traffic! *I am more unassuming goth, than sun worshipper! Haha!* This aside, we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves any more… we even laugh about this enforced detour – on reflection.

If you are visiting Valletta in Malta, I would highly recommend eating at a little gem of a restaurant we found called Pastaus. The staff were absolutely amazing, and the food was to die for. Seriously, check out the photos below of the bruschetta and the pasta… food heaven! We actually ended up eating here three nights in a row as it was that good!

Pastaus has a variety of homemade fresh pasta, including types that are gluten free and/or suitable for vegans. The idea is simple, you choose which pasta you would like, and then choose a sauce… voila! An amazing pasta dish is brought to your table before you know it.

Check out their Facebook page here.

Also… I am a sucker for ice cream, or desserts of any kind really. There is a little shop in Valletta called Amorino that does the most amazing ice cream. They also do macarons WITH ICE CREAM AS THE FILLING!!! Is it just me who gets this excited about things like this?! Haha, we had to race back to our apartment to eat them before they melted. Totally worth it!

If you are planning a destination wedding on this beautiful island, give me a shout! I would love to photograph your wedding for you 🙂
